Two drivetrains, two sets of needs

A plug-in hybrid has both a combustion engine and an electric drivetrain. The engine needs oil, filters and regular mechanical servicing, while the high-voltage battery, on-board charger and control units need diagnostics and checks. We do both on the same visit.

Because hybrids often run on electric power for short trips, the engine gets little use and the brakes even less. That brings its own problems: brakes that corrode, fuel that sits in the tank and a battery that is rarely fully discharged.

What we check on a hybrid service

When your car is due for its manufacturer service, we follow the manufacturer’s service programme for your specific car and document the work, so your warranty is protected. The workshop confirms the content and price in advance. You hear what we found, and we never do extra work until you have approved the price.

  • Oil and filter change on the combustion engine
  • Brake cleaning and lubrication – they see little use with regenerative braking
  • Cabin filter check and replacement
  • Air-conditioning function check and AC service if needed
  • 12-volt battery check – typical lifespan 4–6 years
  • Scan for stored and active fault codes in both drivetrains
  • Check of tyres, wheel alignment and suspension

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does a plug-in hybrid need more servicing than an EV?

Usually, yes. A plug-in hybrid has both a combustion engine and an electric drivetrain, and both need maintenance. The engine needs oil and filters on top of the usual care of brakes, tyres, air conditioning and electronics.

Where can I get my hybrid serviced in Oslo?

At Elbilexpressen, Konows gate 67B. We service hybrids and plug-in hybrids from every make, are an approved category 01 workshop with our own inspection lane, and have expertise in both mechanical systems and high voltage.

Why do the brakes on a hybrid rust?

Regenerative braking means the mechanical brakes see little use, so they miss out on the natural cleaning that normal braking provides. We recommend cleaning and lubrication every year or every 20,000 km, from kr 1 490,-.

Do I get roadside assistance when my hybrid is serviced?

12 months of MECA Veihjelp roadside assistance from Viking included with a qualifying service. The inclusion must be stated on the receipt. An ordinary inspection package does not automatically qualify – the workshop confirms. See MECA’s terms (meca.no, opens in a new tab).
